Counselor/Therapist, MS, LCMHC, LPC, NCC, CCTP-II
 therapist: Jess Clodfelter,

You don’t need another space where someone nods at you and hands you a worksheet you’ll never use — and you definitely don’t need one where you have to explain or defend who you are. I provide gender-affirming therapy for adults across North Carolina and South Carolina, working primarily with trans, nonbinary, and queer folx navigating identity exploration, dysphoria, and the very real stress of existing in a world that doesn’t always get it. My work is trauma-informed and attachment-based, helping you make sense of patterns like overthinking, burnout, people-pleasing, and relationship cycles without pathologizing the hell out of you. This is a space that’s collaborative, honest, and actually feels human — where we unpack what’s keeping you stuck and build something that fits you better. If you’re looking for therapy that’s affirming, real, and a little more direct than the usual, you’re in the right place — go ahead and reach out.

Treatment Approach

  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Reality Therapy / Choice Theory Focuses on present choices and taking responsibility for actions. It helps clients create more fulfilling relationships and lives.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and fully tailored to you. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, so I pull from different approaches depending on what you actually need in the moment. That might look like parts work (IFS) to understand the different pieces of you that show up, attachment-focused work to make sense of relationship patterns, feminist therapy to unpack internalized messages and systems-level bullshit, or somatic grounding to help your nervous system chill the fuck out when it’s doing the most. Some sessions are more insight-focused, connecting dots and helping you understand why certain patterns keep showing up. Other sessions are more practical, like building boundaries, shifting communication, or figuring out how to move through your day without your brain spiraling or your nervous system running the show. We go back and forth between understanding and action, because you need both. At the core of my work is the belief that your responses make sense in context. We’re not here to pathologize you or force you into a box — we’re here to understand what’s been keeping you stuck, challenge what’s no longer serving you, and help you build something that actually fits your life.

Jess Clodfelter Practice Details

Therapy Sessions Jess Clodfelter Practice Description
Therapy with me is a space where you don’t have to filter yourself, shrink who you are, or explain the basics just to feel understood. I provide gender-affirming telehealth therapy for adults in North Carolina and South Carolina, working primarily with trans, nonbinary, and queer folx who are navigating identity exploration, dysphoria, trauma, self-esteem, & relationship and attachment patterns. I also work with folks dealing with anxiety, burnout, life transitions, and that general “what the fuck am I doing with my life” energy that tends to show up when things start shifting. This isn’t the kind of therapy where I’m gonna sit here nodding, asking “how does that make you feel”, throwing generic advice at you, or handing you a worksheet you’re never going to use. Some sessions are about working through identity struggles, some are gonna be about untangling patterns that keep showing up, others are about navigating relationships or setting boundaries, and some are just about having a space to vent, process, or be a human for a minute. You don’t have to show up a certain way or have it all figured out to be here. As a queer therapist, I lead with gender-affirming care and create a space that’s affirming, collaborative, and actually feels like you can exhale a little. I also provide gender-affirming surgery letters through a collaborative, non-gatekeeping process, so you can access the care you need without jumping through a bunch of unnecessary hoops. If you’re looking for therapy that’s honest, affirming, a little more fucking human than most, and doesn’t make you feel like you have to perform to “do it right,” you’re in the right place.
