Trans people existing shouldn’t be controversial.
And yet… here the fuck we are.
International Transgender Day of Visibility isn’t about asking for permission to exist—it’s about refusing to disappear. 🤍
It started in 2009—not as a reaction to tragedy, but as a deliberate shift toward celebration.
Toward visibility that isn’t rooted in grief or loss, but in presence. In aliveness. In the quiet, radical act of being seen.
BECAUSE VISIBILITY ISN’T ALWAYS SIMPLE. 🌀
For a lot of trans folx, today isn’t just celebration—it’s layered.
Because being seen can feel like freedom…
& also like exposure.
It’s the tension of wanting to be known while also needing to be safe, & those two things don’t always coexist in the world we’re living in right now.
So this day isn’t about forcing anyone into a spotlight. It’s about honoring choices & making space for people to show up in ways that actually feel sustainable.
〰 Being visible on your own terms
〰 Being seen by people who actually see you
〰 Existing without having to translate yourself into exhaustion just so someone else gets it
✨That’s visibility too.✨ All of it counts—& sometimes it looks like choosing to exist in full color in a world that still tries to flatten you into something that’s easier for THEM to understand.
“The rest of the world was black & white, but we were in screaming color.”—Taylor Swift
WHAT VISIBILITY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE. ✨
Visibility isn’t just posting a cute selfie (though please, drop the selfies—we support the art 💅🏻). It’s also the quieter, braver moments that don’t always get witnessed.
〰 Correcting someone when they get your name wrong, even when your voice shakes
〰 Wearing the thing that feels like you, even if it’s not what people expect
〰 Letting yourself imagine a future where you don’t have to make yourself small to survive
〰 Existing in a body, identity, or expression that other people don’t understand—& not bending to make them comfortable
That last one? That’s the mic drop.
Because here’s the whole ass truth:
You don’t owe anyone a more palatable version of yourself. Period.🙅🏼♀️
And also—
this part matters—
Confusion about who you are doesn’t cancel out clarity about who you’re not.
& I say that with my whole chest. 🫶🏻
You’re allowed to be in progress.
You’re allowed to not have the perfect label.
You’re allowed to move toward yourself without having every answer neatly wrapped up for other people’s comfort.
AND FOR THE PEOPLE WATCHING FROM THE SIDELINES 👀
Yeah, hi. 👋🏻 This part’s for you.
If someone’s existence feels confusing, uncomfortable, or “too much”…that discomfort isn’t a sign that they need to change.
It’s a sign that you might have some unpacking to do.🤷🏼♀️
Trans people are not a debate topic. Period.
❌ They’re not a think piece.
❌ They’re not a “both sides” situation.
✅ They are people. Full fucking stop. 🛑
And if your version of “support” only exists when it’s easy, quiet, or convenient?
TWIST: That’s not support. That’s proximity.
TO THE TRANS FOLX READING THIS 💜
You don’t have to be loud to be real.
You don’t have to be certain to be valid.
You don’t have to be visible in ways that cost you your safety.
You get to choose:
🩵 Who knows you
🩷 How you’re seen
🤍 What parts of you are shared & what parts are sacred
And whether today looks like posting, celebrating, resting, hiding, connecting, grieving, or just getting through the day—
you’re still here. existing.
And that counts.
More than you’ve probably been told. 🤍
THE ACTUAL POINT OF TODAY. 🏳️⚧️
Today isn’t about perfection, performance, or proving shit to anyone.
Just this:
You exist. And that’s enough.
Not someday.
Not once you’ve figured it all out.
Not once other people “get it.”
Now.
And it’s not about being visible to people—
it’s about being visible to the right people.
Including yourself.
That’s where something real starts to happen. 🩷
TL;DR ✩
✩ Trans Day of Visibility is about refusing to disappear—not performing joy you don’t feel
✩ Visibility is layered, complicated, & yours to define on your own terms
✩ You don’t have to have it all figured out to deserve to be seen 🤍
Until next time—
keep kissing who you want & being a fucking masterpiece✨
XO, Jess 🤍
