Treatment Approach
- Christian Counseling Blends psychological practices with Christian values and scripture. It provides faith-based support for life challenges and spiritual growth.
- Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
- Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
- Hakomi Method A mindfulness-based approach that helps clients notice unconscious patterns in their body and mind. It emphasizes compassion and non-judgment.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: In our first session, we’ll thoughtfully explore your history, goals, and current challenges. If using insurance, we’ll establish a diagnosis and its impact on daily life to meet medical necessity.
Follow-up sessions blend structure with intuitive flow. We begin by settling in, orienting to the present, and choosing a focus - aiming to shift into mindful, receptive awareness with attuned presence.
Trauma and stress often appear as stuck fight/flight (anxiety, irritability, anger) or freeze/shutdown (depression, numbness, powerlessness). Using Somatic Experiencing, we gently support the nervous system to complete and release these patterns through titration (working slowly within your window of tolerance) and pendulation (shifting between discomfort and safety). This allows healing at just the right pace, restoring safety, resilience, and capacity for relational presence.

I integrate Somatic Experiencing and Hakomi-based approaches within evidence-based frameworks including Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TI-CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). The work will engage core beliefs (or 'core material' as we'd say in Hakomi), emotions, autonomic nervous system states, and the large and so-called small choices you make in your life every day. Healing and transformation is made real, guided by the subtle wisdom of the body as the essential meeting place with what we might call call the divine indwelling.
My work is oriented toward present-moment experience as it unfolds, moment to moment, within our sessions. Many of us have learned to leave our bodies when we've experienced overwhelming stress or trauma - disconnecting from sensations, emotions, and our own inner guidance. Through somatic therapy and at least a taste of contemplative practice, you will learn to safely return to your body, decode its signals, and access the innate healing capacity that dwells within you.
