Counselor/Therapist, MSW, LSW
 therapist: Ry Shavlik,
In-Person in Fort Collins, CO 80526

Hi, I'm Ry, and I'm glad that you're here. I know that sounds cheesy (and it kinda is), but seeking out therapy services takes a lot of courage. As a therapist, I am pretty laid-back, goofy, and genuine. Some people prefer a very textbook “professional” therapist, and honestly, that is not me. I dress in casual clothes and sometimes (or a lot of the time) even swear in session. I show up as my full authentic, dorky self. I can't wait to meet your authentic self in my space as well.

Client Focus

Session Format: Couple, Individual sessions.
Age Specialty: Adult, Teen, Young Adult

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) Helps clients challenge and replace irrational beliefs. It is an action-oriented approach for lasting change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: I take a whole-person holistic approach to therapy. We must consider the systems that we are functioning in, if we are going to fully conceptualize what is truly impacting us. I take a social justice and feminist lens to my therapeutic approach. We do not exist in a vacuum and treating us as such does us a huge disservice.

Ry Shavlik Practice Description
I never want my therapy space to feel uptight or clinical. I want it to fee more like a living room where we can have honest and real conversations with one another. My practice is an affirming space, for queer folk, neurodivergent people, and more. I always want to be known as an inclusive therapist as I share these identities as well. I'm gentle but direct in my approach. I offer 15 min free consultations to see if we would be a good fit for each other. I just want you to have the best fit for a therapist, whether that's me or not, I'm committed to helping you find that.
