Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
  • Reality Therapy / Choice Theory Focuses on present choices and taking responsibility for actions. It helps clients create more fulfilling relationships and lives.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

Nina Hopmeier Practice Description
Therapy: I offer counselling services to children, adolescents, and adults in the areas of depression, anxiety, grief and loss, self-esteem, addictions, stress management, trauma, ADHD, and eating disorders. I also offer counselling services to couples and am a certified couples therapist in the Gottman Method, which is considered the Gold Standard for treatment. Currently there are only 8 certified Gottman Therapists in all of British Columbia, including myself. I am also a certified couples therapist and supervisor in Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). The dual certification of the Gottman Method and EFT largely helps strengthen the quality of couples work. To deepen my skills further I have also earned certification as a therapist in the EFT model for individual therapy (EFIT-Certified), which allows me to create a nurturing and supportive environment where we can explore and process past experiences that may still feel unresolved today. The counselling models that I use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy, all of which I have formal training in. If interested feel free to call me. I am listening....It is never too late for change and growth. Supervision: As a certified EFIT and ECFT therapist and supervisor, I am passionate about helping professionals deepen their EFT skills with confidence and clarity. I offer supportive and collaborative supervision tailored to your needs, whether you’re new to EFT or looking to refine your practice. My goal is to create a warm, encouraging space where we can explore challenges, celebrate growth, and strengthen your ability to foster meaningful change with your clients. If you’re seeking EFT supervision that is both insightful and practical, I’d love to connect and support you on your therapist journey.
