Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
Approach Description: While trained as a generalist, Dr. Mystkowski mainly practices within a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) framework, including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), specializing in the treatment of adults with anxiety (e.g., panic, worry, phobias, OCD, and PTSD) and mood disorders (e.g., episodic and chronic depression), relational problems, and phase of life transitions. In addition, he has training in the psychological treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), insomnia, and bipolar disorder, as well as an extensive background working with LGBTQ+ clients. Dr. Mystkowski is Board Certified in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), and is a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A-CBT), certified as a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist.

Individual Psychotherapy (45/50/60min): A standard, weekly therapy appointment, in which the length is determined by a client’s concerns and needs.
