Many people struggle with the belief that they are not good enough, and they subsequently suppress parts of themselves that they fear will alienate them from others. My primary task as a therapist is to create a safe and validating environment in which you can feel free to be your whole self, without fear of rejection or judgment. My goal is to recognize, understand, and honor each part of you, especially the parts that feel most vulnerable.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
Approach Description: My approach to therapy is, first and foremost, collaborative, and I strive to create a unique therapeutic experience that is tailored to each client's specific needs. I view therapy as a team effort, with clients being the experts on themselves and me being the expert on psychological theory and interventions. As clients share their lives and their internal worlds with me, I will make a multitude of observations (e.g., themes arising across different contexts, patterns among relationships, connections between the past and present, etc.) and check in with clients to ensure these observations feel relevant and accurate. Through this process, both you and I will gain insight and a deeper understanding of factors that create distress for you, which will allow me to make precise and tailored recommendations on how to work toward your treatment goals. My primary theoretical foundation is in psychodynamic therapy, which emphasizes the role of past experiences and unconscious motivations on present-day experiences and behaviors. However, while this foundation might guide how I might conceptualize your distress, I adopt a "whatever works" approach when making recommendations and will draw from a multitude of theoretical frameworks to intervene in a way that I believe will be most suitable.

Dr. Andrew Bingman Practice Description
My practice is fully virtual, and I meet with clients via a secure, HIPAA-compliant, teleconferencing system. I provide individual and couples therapy to adult clients, and my primary specialties include LGBTQIA+ concerns, men's issues, childhood trauma, family of origin concerns, anxiety, depression, interpersonal/relationship concerns, ethical non-monogamy, and long-distance relationships. I also provide evaluations and referral letters for gender-affirming care. After practicing telehealth during the covid-19 pandemic and becoming licensed via PsyPact, which allows me to work virtually with clients across the country, I saw an opportunity to make LGBTQIA-affirming therapy available to clients who might otherwise not have local access, due to living in rural and/or conservative areas. This was the inspiration for opening my practice in 2022, and I have had the privilege of meeting and working with LGBTQIA+ adults, particularly gay and bisexual men, across the country.
