Laura Anderson LPCC, Eff Shame Therapy (She/Her)

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCC
therapist: Laura Anderson LPCC, Eff Shame Therapy,
Online in California, New Mexico (Online Only)
I started Eff Shame Therapy because I believe shame is at the root of most of what brings people to therapy — and because I think it deserves to be named directly rather than tiptoed around. We are living in a world that generates shame faster than most of us can process it, and many of us are carrying wounds from abuse, trauma, and systemic harm that have never had a real place to land and heal. I work with adults who are ready to stop managing their pain and start actually moving through it. My approach is trauma-informed, shame-free, and genuinely collaborative — I bring some of the most effective healing tools available including EMDR, Flash Technique, and ketamine-assisted EMDR, and I meet you exactly where you are. This work matters to me. Not as a concept but in the room, session by session, with real people who deserve more than survival.

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Combines low doses of ketamine with psychotherapy to treat depression, trauma, and anxiety. It can provide relief when other methods haven’t worked.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: You might feel like you've never quite fit — like you've been carrying something heavy for so long you've forgotten what it felt like not to. Maybe shame has been so constant it just feels like you. It doesn't have to stay that way. Eff Shame Therapy exists for those ready to stop just surviving. I work with adults navigating trauma, PTSD, sexual concerns, and the weight of systemic and cultural harm — including LGBTQ+ folks, those in non-traditional relationships, and survivors of religious, racial, and family trauma. I offer EMDR, Flash Technique, and ketamine-assisted EMDR intensives — focused, deeper-dive sessions for those ready to move through what talk therapy alone hasn't touched.

Laura Anderson LPCC, Eff Shame Therapy Practice Description
I work with adults of all ages and am honored to work with those from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences different from my own. My practice name is Eff Shame Therapy because so many of us carry around so much shame that we are sometimes not even consciously aware of yet it impacts our every waking moment. It doesn't need to be this way! The impacts of abuse, prejudice, and all forms of harm can solidify into layers which distance us from living a full, vibrant life. Let's work together to untangle from the grips of shame so you can walk more freely on your journeys, whatever they may be!
