Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Developmental Therapy Looks at how childhood and developmental experiences affect current challenges. It aims to repair unmet needs and foster healthy growth.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
Approach Description: The therapeutic work that I’m best at is relational. By that, I mean that it begins with building a compassionate, caring, and trusting relationship in which all our work is rooted. Together, we will explore the ways in which symptoms like anxiety or depression have evolved and function in your life. Or we will collaboratively address the ways in which problems come up for you – in your relationships, decision making processes, work life, or in other meaningful ways. Work is sometimes brief and focused on solving a problem, while sometimes therapy takes a slower pace, focusing on ways in which early life relationships have created a blueprint for how you experience other people and the world around you. Other times our work may look at specific experiences of major traumatic events or more pervasive experiences of disrupted relationships. Work with me is informed by therapeutic approaches that recognize the importance of the body, brain, and nervous system, along with the mind, brain, spirit, and psyche.

Dan Walinsky Practice Description
I am a counseling psychologist, licensed in Pennsylvania and authorized to practice telehealth in multiple states through PSYPACT. I have spent the past 11 years training therapists as a full time faculty member at several universities nationally. I always want the approach that I use with a client to meet the needs of the person and the issues that they’re presenting. Therefore, while all of my work is grounded in the therapeutic relationship, I use several theoretical perspectives in my work, including interpersonal, multicultural, feminist, polyvagal theory, EMDR, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I practice both in person and online. Please reach out for a free, 15 minute consultation to see if we are a good fit.
