If you've landed here, welcome! You're reading the bio of a practitioner who exclusively offers EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. Unlike other therapists who may take an EMDR class or two, I am a Certified EMDR Therapist as well as a consultant for other professionals who want to strengthen their skills using this evidence-based modality. I stay actively connected to a national and international network of professionals who are dedicated to EMDR treatment and research; my colleagues describe me as thoughtful in the construction and conceptualization of client treatment goals. They also note that I can effectively integrate EMDR with other modalities as warranted. It's my hope your finding this information will lead you to think EMDR may be the right treatment - and I may be the right therapist - for you!

Treatment Approach
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
Approach Description: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most effective modalities to treat PTSD and Complex PTSD without re-traumatization. Effective EMDR doesn't retraumatize the client because it doesn't require talking in detail about a distressing issue, or doing homework assignments between sessions. Effective EMDR helps clients move through the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors attached to a distressing issue in such a way as to allow the brain to follow a natural healing process, bringing the client noticeable and long-lasting relief - often more quickly than with traditional talk therapy. In addition to being one of the best known trauma treatments, EMDR is highly effective for people who are experiencing other conditions, including depression or anxiety in connection to life transitions, relationships, work, family pressures, or social duress. I also find it beneficial, when used in conjunction with education, for addressing issues of narcissistic victimhood and narcissistic abuse.

Although I've been in private practice in my office on Capitol Hill for over 15 years, I now work primarily via telehealth. My clients tell me they prefer it to in-person appointments, and experience shows that it can be done just as easily and affectively online as in my office. Since some people are new to EMDR, I make sure to give every client a complete introduction to the modality and a chance to ask as many questions as they'd like before therapy begins. Clients tell me I have an open, personable, and practical style - and I do pride myself on providing the nuanced kind of individual support each of them needs. Additionally, I keep the number of people I see small so that I can protect the emotional space I need to compassionately hold all of my clients in mind as well as have time to keep up with the latest podcasts, articles, and meetings that keep me informed on a professional level.
