My belief is that we all do the best we can with what we know: the decisions that we have made in our past have often been creative adaptations to life's circumstances. This is the place where we will start our relationship. I will listen intently, and through compassionate, non-judgemental inquiry, I will work with you to gain a deeper insight into your life’s circumstances and the issues that have led you to seek counselling. I work from a trauma-informed orientation. This means that I believe that traumatic events - experiences that completely overwhelm our ability to cope - happen to everyone and are part of the human experience. This perspective makes it easier to grasp that our future does not have to be dictated by our past. As we work together, you will learn to let go of what no longer serves you. It has been said that vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change. I know that to be vulnerable you will need to feel safe. I have been told by many of my clients that I provide that safe place - and with empathy I can also create a safe space for you. Together, I will assist you in finding the strength and courage within yourself to make the changes that will lead you to have the life you want to live.
