Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
Approach Description: I have extensive experience addressing a variety of concerns and identifying the right approaches and tools to support my clients. I am proud to offer Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, which is one of the top three most evidence-based treatments for trauma according to the American Psychological Association. No two people are the same, and even when using a treatment protocol, I adapt my approach to meet my clients where they are and focus on their priorities.

Emily St. Amant Practice Description
I work with teens (16+) and adults who are dealing with stress, difficult transitions and circumstances, and people who have experienced adverse or traumatic events. I specialize in working with people seeking recovery from the abuse they experienced in their families, intimate relationships, workplaces, religious and faith communities, and also survivors of cults and other high-demand/control groups. Additionally, I work with those who are living with mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, suicide risk, and post-traumatic stress disorder. I also specialize in working with people seeking recovery from substance use, and I welcome clients who are active substance users. Human beings are complex, and I aim to provide effective support to my clients managing a wide range of concerns. I enjoy working with clients from diverse backgrounds and strive to offer a safe, affirming space for the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, disabled individuals, and other marginalized groups. As a military spouse myself, I am honored to work with active-duty service members, their families, and veterans. I’ve been in the mental health field since 2007. In addition to providing therapy, I have worked at a national level in mental health education and advocacy for my profession.
