"How did we get here?" you wonder, as you and your partner fall into another version of the same argument you've been having for years. No matter what you've tried, you can't seem to get out of this negative pattern, and you feel more resentful and disconnected each time it comes up. You need an experienced couple therapist with a nuanced understanding of the contributing factors to your relationship struggles. If you are in a relationship impacted by ADHD, anxiety, or parenting burnout, Dr. McGinn at Have the Talk Counseling, PLLC has the exact expertise to help.

Client Focus

Session Format: Couple sessions.
Age Specialty: Adult

Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral
Approach Description: Dr. McGinn uses a well-established, effective approach called Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy. This approach blends two types of strategies: those aimed at deepening partners understanding of one another and acceptance of their natural differences, and those aimed at making practical changes in behavior to alter the problematic dynamics that are keeping them stuck. Dr. McGinn's style is warm and balanced. She will at times take on the role of a "translator" while you are still learning how to communicate your experience more effectively. At other times, she will provide direct feedback about what appears to be getting in the way of your relationship goals, and teach specific strategies and systems that can help get you back on track.

Meghan McGinn Practice Description
Hi! I am Dr. McGinn, a Seattle-based couple therapist, with specific expertise in neurodiverse (ADHD, ASD) relationships, parenting stress or burnout, anxiety, and trauma. As a trained Fair Play method facilitator, I am also uniquely qualified to help with relationship concerns around the division of household and/or caregiving responsibilities and mental load. My approach to couple therapy begins with an assessment phase. I will meet with both of you together as a couple, then with each partner individually, and finally bring you both in for a personalized feedback session where I share my understanding of your concerns based on the assessment and discuss how we can work on those concerns in therapy. If my approach and style feel like a good fit, we proceed with scheduling treatment sessions from there. Please review my practice website for additional details. My website also has several blog posts that may be relevant to your particular concerns. Note that the office hours listed here on this site (therapy tribe) are Eastern Time Zone. I am located on the west coast (pacific time), and the time difference allows me to offer more evening appointments for couples in other parts of the country. All appointments are online video (telehealth) sessions.
