I am extremely passionate about the genuine person-centred and strength-based approach in psychology. I believe psychologists should aim to assist clients in exploring their unique values and identities. In addition, “not being able to be our genuine self” brings distress in the workplace as well as in personal life. When supporting my clients – instead of assuming the expert position – I partner with them, exploring their potential and understanding who they want to be. During the therapy journey, my goal is to create a safe place where my clients can be heard.

Su (Xufeng Su) Practice Description
Having multiple minority statuses did pose challenges in my life and I have lived experience of dealing with societal oppressions. However, I discovered the ability to enjoy the challenges and have become grateful for experiencing the challenges. Within the professional boundaries, I believe my lived experiences as a sexual & cultural minority can be utilised as an asset in my work to be empathetic and understanding as much as my capacity allows. At the same time, I strive to be mindful of my value standpoints and avoid imposing my value system on others consciously or unconsciously. Additionally, as a provisional psychologist, and as a human being, I have awareness of my competencies and will honestly communicate my limitations with my clients & supervisor and refer my clients when needed to maximise the benefits of my clients. In addition to English, I also speak Mandarin and Cantonese. As a cultural minority myself, I have empathy for the challenges to work/live in an environment where you feel hard to express yourself freely. (我会说普通话和广东话,作为一个移民,我能体会当我们感觉自己不能在职场或者生活中自由表达自己的时候我们会感到痛苦). As a provisional psychologist, I cannot provide Medicare rebates before obtaining my general registration with AHPRA.
