We spend so much of our lives straddling the past and the future (both of which can really make us miserable, sometimes!), and it's hard to appreciate what's right in front of us (or maybe what's in front of us makes us miserable too). I'm here to walk with you as you make sense of your circumstances and offer you strategies to live with more ease. My goal is to offer a space where you can express yourself, along with structure to get you moving toward what's most important to you.

Demographic Expertise: Christian, LGBTQ+, Men, Persons with Disabilities, Women clients.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
Approach Description: My clients describe me as encouraging and supportive, with just the right amount of kick-in-the-butt accountability.

Susan Brumbaugh (she/her) Practice Description
I have a piece of artwork in my office that says "Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional." (attributed to many). I use an approach called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which helps you deal with your current reality while taking forward steps. I'm also experienced in leading mindfulness meditations. A lot of my clients also struggle with boundaries (in relationships and with family) and self-expression, so I like to weave those aspects into my approach too. The thing is, you already have so much within you--so many strengths--that you may have become blind to, and it is such an honor to discover what they are and put them to use.
