Nicholas Breitenbach
Psychologist, R. Psych, CST, MA, BA
Being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) isn’t “too much” — it usually means your nervous system notices everything, and it gets tired faster. I help HSP clients manage overwhelm, anxiety, and emotional intensity by building practical regulation tools, stronger boundaries, and clearer communication (especially in relationships). Together we’ll work on reducing burnout, separating intuition from overload, and turning sensitivity into a strength instead of a constant liability.

With the understanding of what a highly sensitive person is, having this in mind can be a helpful part of understanding how to navigate the challenges you're facing. I take this into consideration and allow it to inform my non-judgemental, empathic approach to our work together. The highly sensitive person may experience life slightly differently than others. This understanding can be a helpful perspective in discussing intra-personal or relational issues.

The work is to help understand and embrace deep emotional and sensory responsiveness as a trait, not a flaw. Building emotional regulation, healthy boundaries and strategies to prevent overwhelm, without shutting down sensitivity is critical.

Aaron Kapin
Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, SEP, LMT
From one highly sensitive person to another, it can be a crazy world out there. Two things that I've found helpful:
1st, resiliency training: Although our bodies can react to things that other people might brush off, Somatic Experiencing can help build up our ability to settle our stress and activation levels. That party might still be uncomfortably loud, but it's more tolerable when you have confidence that you can quickly find comfort again once you leave.
2nd: Boundary training and asking for what you want: As we get better at knowing what would help us feel more comfortable, and better at asking for it, we can start to re-shape our environment to feel better. Then as we feel better, and as our loved ones know how to help us, we are more resourceful, more able to connect with others, and more able to be the people we want to be in the world.
