Relationship and Marriage Counseling

Dr. Birte Nachtwey

Registered Psychotherapist, MD, CORST
Relationship problems, whatever their nature, can really burden your everyday life. Most of us seek some kind of bond to other people, want to love and be loved and valued and find a sense of security and comfort in reliable relationships. But what about freedom and autonomy? If there are other needs and wants that feel urgent and important? What to do if the partners wants and needs are really different and there is lots of frustration? Subjects are plentiful: sex, emotional neglect, money, children, family in law, household just to name a few. If you are at a point where you feel stuck and unhappy and don’t see a way out, couple counseling can help you to sort things and find possible solutions. Work on it the sooner the better. Don‘t wait till it blows up in some way. There are often children involved and they don’t deserve years of open or hidden hostility at home. Contact me today and make a move.

Relationship and marriage issues are common problems that many couples face at some point in their lives. They can cause distress, dissatisfaction, and conflict in the relationship, affecting not only the couple but also their children, family, and friends. Working with a therapist can help couples overcome their difficulties and improve their relationship quality and satisfaction. I work with couples using an integrative behavioral couple therapy (IBCT) approach. IBCT is a form of couple therapy that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with acceptance and mindfulness strategies. It aims to help couples change their problematic behaviors, as well as accept and appreciate their differences. IBCT also helps couples enhance their emotional connection and intimacy. In addition, I use a protocol of Experiential Psychotherapy with couples (EPC). Is a form of therapy that focuses on the emotional experiences of the partners in the relationship. It helps couples explore and express their feelings, needs, and desires, as well as understand and empathize with each other. EPC also helps couples develop new ways of relating and communicating, based on authenticity, respect, and compassion. EPC is based on the principles of humanistic psychology, which emphasize the potential for growth and change in every person. EPC is influenced by the work of Carl Rogers, Virginia Satir, Eugene Gendlin, and Leslie Greenberg. The process of couple therapy usually starts with getting to know the history of the couple, formulating the goals of the therapy, and assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the relationship. This can take 2-4 sessions. The average duration of couple therapy is 4-6 months. This is the length of time that allows for noticeable results. The duration of couple therapy can be shorter or longer, depending on the needs of the couple.

Would you like to work on your partnership that will further enrich your partnership? Do you want to understand your partner better and thus become a little happier? Are you single? Do you want to prepare for a partnership, maybe you also want to understand why it didn't work out with the last partnership, or or or ... As a Life Coach I have been married for a relatively long time and that 3 times! So I know that marriage is not always easy, that it is a task, but how fulfilling it can be and how rewarding partnership can be if we don't give up but work on the relationship. "Man is a mine rich in precious stones of inestimable value" Let us try to apply this reference from Bahá'u'lláh to our partner and ourselves. The coaching topics could be: - Marriage as a life task - From being in love to being in love - Understanding my partner better - to be afraid. Fear or anxiety? Of what? - Desires confuse me - What can I do myself? - Family of origin, childhood and sibling constellation, is that important? - How can I work on my independence? - How can I develop my own strengths and abilities? - Cooperation, with whom? - Partner search, how do I do that? - Encouragement / discouragement - Which diverse signals do I send out? - How is my communication? How should it be? - Do I know my partner? - About sexuality - Being able to forgive is worth its weight in gold - What is a marriage vision? - What is my vision and attitude? - Living conditions and crisis conditions - Where do we go from here? - Why or what am I on this planet fore?
