Trauma overwhelms our ability to cope, both in the moment and after the event. Our bodies can become stuck in various states (e.g. hyper vigilance or hypo vigilance) and our minds unable to process or respond to information. In order to help restore functionality, both the mind and the body need to be in sync for functional and resilient living.

Dena Marie Counselling & EMDR Therapy

Counsellor/Therapist, MEd, RCC
I support clients who have experienced trauma or are living with PTSD by using EMDR to gently process distressing memories that may still feel overwhelming or “stuck.” This therapy helps your brain reframe these experiences so they no longer dominate your thoughts, emotions, or reactions. Through EMDR, clients often notice reduced triggers, increased emotional regulation, and a stronger sense of safety, control, and resilience in their everyday lives.

Toronto, Ontario therapist: Samuele Bariani, registered psychotherapist
Trauma and PTSD

Samuele Bariani

Registered Psychotherapist, MDiv, RP
Trauma is not simply what happened to us but mainly how we internally coped to overwhelming moments. In the long term, the strategies that kept us alive can become fixed patterns that no longer serve us to flourish and fully live the present. Together in therapy, we can create a safe and collaborative space in which you can no longer feel alone in dealing with the symptoms of trauma. We will slowly focus on healthy coping strategies to regulate your emotions and your physical reactions so that when you feel overwhelmed again you will be able to regain control and soothe yourself. As therapy unfolds, you will decide what details of your traumatic experience you feel ready to share while I will support you with the use of specific modalities such as Narrative Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) in order to access, process and rewrite the story of your trauma.

Counsellor/Therapist, MSc, CT, MPCC, MBACP
Trauma is the emotional wound that is created in response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event such as the loss of a loved one, or perhaps suffering an accident, abuse or surviving a natural disaster. Equally trauma can result from the drip, drip, drip of negative or abusive circumstances outside our control, that impact our sense of safety, trust and ‘okay-ness’ in the world around us. The emotional impact of trauma can result in long term physical and mental symptoms that make it difficult to function in our everyday lives. It wreaks havoc with our relationships with others. Depression and anxiety very often result from the experience of trauma. Talking therapy can help us to validate our experiences and the feelings, or denial of feelings, that go hand in hand with trauma. In time we can hopefully reframe what causes us to suffer and develop skills to cope, so that we can move forward in our lives.

Traumas is part of life of millions of people. Most people at some point had some kind of traumatic experience, whether it is obviously harmful from a humanistic point of view or might be a minor event in childhood which you can’t even recall yet it “hits”, echos in some way preventing from authentically expressing love, positive feelings and emotions and not allowing true happiness to be part of your personality and daily life on a long-term basis. Traumas can rob you of emotional and physical energy, can devoid you of trust to yourself and important people who you love and care about. Those complex heavy experiences can creep into the body at any age as if some kind of implanted program. Traumatic experiences are often part of people’s stories, however they don’t have to be the main and only story of your life. Usually there is a way to change it, to make the internal turmoil or discomfort less painful. To find emotional balance. Often trauma therapy work is absolutely a must to have. In general, I believe that every person can benefit from therapy, counseling, and life coaching at any stage of their life. Many traumas as well lie at the generational level, having roots way before you were born. A lot of people experience some kind of trauma within a few months before or after their birth. I usually use emotion-image therapy, MACards counseling or art therapy as well as their combination. These methods are very good for self-integration and working with family patterns, subpersonalities, inner child, parent and adult. The concept of integrating parts of personalities, releasing what does not belong to you and what is not helping you is and finding resourceful parts of you is big part of trauma therapy work which I do. At times I combine a few methods. I recommend watching 2 videos on emotion-image therapy on my Life in Glow Wellness vlog. Best is to book a package of 3-5 sessions at minimum together, to schedule sessions once a week. Sessions are available on the first come first serve basis with a preference to returning clients and have to be booked in advance (pre-paid in advance). Rates for sessions vary from USD $75 to $125 depending on the package and length of the session. I offer a sliding scale for the 1st session and when you take a package. As a special promo, discovery consultation in March 2023 is free of charge, it lasts 20-30 minutes and can be followed up by the 1st consultation on the same day. PS there are a few types of traumas which I currently do not work with because it requires a very long-term therapy or specific education, as well as collaboration with a psychologist or psychiatrist. Feel free to message to me to describe your case and I will let you know if I can offer you therapy services.
