Pasadena, California therapist: Katherine Shalby, registered social worker

Katherine Shalby

Registered Social Worker, ACSW
Contrary to popular belief, therapy is not a “safe space.” Of course, my goal is to help you feel safe, seen and heard as you embark on your healing process, but it may very likely not feel natural to relax into a space as you share the deepest and most hidden parts of yourself. Every person has a unique footprint because of the events that have occurred in their life. In our work together, my goal is to foster a healing space to learn how those events have shaped you, and to find the path on which to walk that is best for you. We may go through life making decisions based on what we feel others might want us to do; therapy is the space to figure out what we want without worrying about others’ perceptions of us. True healing in therapy comes from a place of being fully transparent with who we are and learning to navigate that without shame. I work with individuals struggling with various issues, including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, eating disorders and trauma. My focus is less on putting a client into a certain “box,” but rather, to help you reveal your own truth and understanding of who you are, why you are and who you want to be. My true hope is that you will be able to fully accept and embrace all parts of yourself so that you can have relationships with others who also fully accept and embrace who you are.

I enjoy connecting with individuals and meeting them wherever they are at any given moment. I help people connect with their inner wisdom by slowing down their brainwaves, getting them to link their bodies with their emotions, and using the power of their imagination to create new associations in their subconscious minds. All of these tools and more help individuals with issues such as habit-control, stress management, and unrealized goals.
