Ricardo Peña

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I provide services in Spanish + English. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist of Mesoamerica-Indigienous ancestry. My life exposed to community violence, trauma and intersecting oppressions has led me to the work of healing, self-discovery, exploration and ancestral healing. I was raised in the SF Bay Area and I currently reside on the stolen lands of the Tongva peoples, colonially known as Los Angeles, California. My lived experiences of being a person of color with intersecting identities, navigating the world and the trauma that comes with that, has led me to the practice of healing at a young age. I grew up with many years of witnessing (through family members + my community) severe mental illness, addiction, community violence, chronic suicidality, incarceration and domestic violence. Through my own stories and experiences, as a justice-oriented therapist, I aim to disrupt and dismantle these oppressive systems within myself and in my practice to make therapy a safe(r) space for folks who are targeted and made marginalized.

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT, MS
The judgments come from all sides – your family, peers, and the church. For such a long time, you’ve heard their toxic words, “You’re not good enough.” “You’re broken.” “You’re worthless.” And the worst part is, you've started to believe it yourself. The external chorus of criticism has become indistinguishable from the voice in your mind. You've carried the weight of these unfair judgments admirably – constantly pushing forward and doing what you need to survive. But you can feel yourself slowly crumbling under the pressure. You can’t go on like this. But your shame has become so familiar that you’re unsure how to live without it.   Don’t give up – life can be so much better. Using the powerful modalities of EMDR and Brainspotting, I can help you heal your trauma and dismantle self-critical shame. Together we’ll work to restore your calm and self-compassion. And, through our work together, we’ll help you experience ease in your body and tap into a newfound sense of joy and creativity.   Stop letting the judgments of other people determine your self-worth. Start treating yourself with the care, compassion, and forgiveness you deserve. Develop the confidence to create the relationships, career, and life you’ve always dreamed of. You don’t have to do this alone. Call me today for your free 20-minute consultation, and let's get started!

My clients are creative and curious. Problems are just a symptom of something deeper and my clients look for that deeper meaning that is informing their life. It's never as obvious as it may seem when you're feeling alone and sometimes an objective eye can waken your instincts.

Stella Zweben Samuel, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW
I have worked as a psychotherapist for more than 25 years. During those years, I have worked with adolescents and young adults in a variety of settings – hospitals, day treatment facilities, universities, schools, and private practice. My first job out of social work school was at Bellevue Medical Center in New York City with adolescents. The adolescents with whom I worked at Bellevue gave me an education in humor, creativity, and strength. I obtained counseling positions at both UCLA and USC working with students on their academic challenges and the stress that impacts their success. It is fair to say that I have learned how to listen to adolescents, understand how to connect with them, and help them to gain confidence and the strategies to improve themselves and their situation. But I have also grasped the stress of parents have when raising adolescents and provided support, understanding, and tools to manage this important role. I’ve been training my whole life for this. I grew up with a mother who taught children with learning disabilities and a father who always gave back to the community recognizing those less fortunate. I learned early through volunteering at my mother’s school, volunteering at mental health helplines, supporting friends throughout high school, becoming a mom, and throughout my work in social work that providing another person with a patient and listening ear could provide support and understanding. It could be said that all that I have experienced, shared, and studied so far has been training me for the role I cherish that of psychotherapist.
