Psychotherapy opens our perceptions to the meanings behind our beliefs and patterns of behavior, that in turn comprise the roles we take in our lives. My job is to help you integrate these perceptions and access these meanings, so you can expand your life by creating new roles.

An estimated 5 million Americans suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and live diminished lives in which they are compelled to obsess about something or to repeat a similar task over and over. Traditionally, OCD has been treated with Prozac or similar drugs. The problem with medication, aside from its cost, is that 30 percent of people treated don’t respond to it, and when the pills stop, the symptoms invariably return. We will work towards changing your brain chemistry through behavior modification to develop new patterns of response to your obsessions.

Registered Psychotherapist, Gestalt Therapist , M.B.A.
Obsession. Compulsion. Addiction. These are first cousins, thoughts and actions that seem to happen all on their own volition. In my work, there is always something good about these 3 amigos - or they would not be here in your life. The work is to discover what that is, and like in the serentiy prayer: Deal with what you can change, accept what you can't , and know the difference. Sometimes it means changing a belief, sometimes a field or environmental condition... sometimes taking care of some emotions hiding in dark places.

I believe that OCD -- no matter the content of obsessions -- is a coping mechanism to distract from deeper distress. The key is to find that root source of distress. I use my well-developed intuitive sense to look for those deeper causes and then use energy psychology methods to resolve the underlying experiences and/or emotional conflicts that created the need for obsessing, thereby relieving it. ERP only goes so deep -- it addresses the OCD behavior, which is necessary in severe cases, but doesn't necessarily resolve the root cause. The mindbody model for healing is an effective approach for OCD, making my Minding-The-Body Healing Group is an excellent choice for those with OCD.
