I'd be there for someone dealing with domestic abuse, giving them a safe spot to open up about what's happening without any judgment. We'd talk about how the abuse affects them emotionally and how it messes with their confidence. I'd also help them figure out ways to stay safe and get support, like finding shelters or legal help if needed. The goal of therapy would be to help them see their own strengths, feel better about themselves, and get out of the abusive situation for good.

Domestic abuse often creates very painful symptoms and is something for which I use a therapy called Prolonged Exposure (PE). In this therapy, we will revisit traumatic situations, process painful emotions, and change unhelpful beliefs about yourself and the world around you as a result of your trauma. People are often amazed at how quickly this treatment can work and by the very meaningful change that can result. For these reasons, this is one of my favorite treatments to provide.
