The embodied self is a psychospiritual concept that hosts existential questions of “Who am I? What am I? Where does my value lay?” Our relationship with our bodies can be fraught with neglect and dissociation as we learn to ignore the many messages it sends to us. The embodied self can be experienced in a positive or negative manner, and it is strongly related to self-esteem, self-image, and one’s satisfaction with personal and sexual intimacy. A positive sense of an embodied self is associated with autonomy, functionality, joy and fulfillment. This component will help in developing and enforcing positive embodiment by increasing positive connection between the individual body, self-esteem, emotional awareness, feelings, and general life satisfaction. Therefore, the individual should be able to improve their physical, emotional and psychological health impairments.
I work with clients who struggle with Body Image issues. Commonly, this is the result of some past trauma and a severe reaction to something from the past. During our sessions, we will collaborate to create a plan for addressing them that helps you resolve such issues in a meaningful manner to restore functioning enabling and empowering you to move beyond your past. I practice from a Holistic perspective and commonly employ EMDR and other effective modalities with helping clients achieve balance and purpose in their lives and creative solutions to their problems. This includes exploring past issues and trauma that may be a factor presently.
