As a queer therapist myself, I am passionate about providing affirmative therapy to LGBTQ+ clients. I have devoted much of my career to the LGBTQ+ community. I love helping my clients explore their identity and come to a place of self-acceptance. I am also able to provide assessments and letters for clients seeking Hormone Replacement Therapy and Gender Affirming Surgeries.
LGBTQ+ issues can present unique challenges, from navigating identity and relationships to coping with societal stigmas and discrimination. Additionally, I may integrate family systems therapy to help clients navigate familial dynamics and cultivate acceptance and support within their social environment, empowering them to embrace their identities authentically.
It is important for me to address LGBT issues with sensitivity and respect for individual experiences. By incorporating Attachment-based techniques, I explore the impact of early relational dynamics on clients' identities and relationships within the LGBT community. Additionally, I draw upon Mindfulness-Based approaches and Trauma Focused interventions to support clients in navigating the unique challenges and societal pressures they may face, fostering self-acceptance and resilience in their journey towards authenticity and empowerment.
I utilize CBT and DBT to help people challenge and reframe negative thoughts and beliefs related to their identity and experiences. We will work on building effective cognitive patterns and developing effective coping mechanisms. I Integrate mindfulness practices to help people stay grounded and present in challenging situations. I will encourage the development of self-compassion as a tool for managing internalized stigma and fostering self-acceptance.
Over the years I have seen many individuals and couples who are gay, lesbian or bisexual. I am aware of the issues of being closeted and of the oppression of societal judgment. There are issues that happen more frequently in gay men vs lesbians, and I am aware of them as well. Many of the relationship issues are similar to those of heterosexual couples.
