Meandering to Change, LLC

Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hello! I see therapy as a casual conversation with a purpose. That purpose is to create an opportunity for you to explore your experiences, better understand yourself, and discover possibilities for change. For more than 21 years, I have had the privilege of supporting people through challenges of all shapes and sizes. Some have names such as anxiety, depression, grief, or relationship difficulties. Others are simply parts of life that have become difficult, confusing, overwhelming, or no longer feel right. I don’t believe a problem needs to fit neatly into a diagnosis to deserve attention. I believe each person comes to therapy with their own story, strengths, experiences, and understanding of the world. You are the expert on the life you’ve lived. I bring my clinical experience, curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to explore that life alongside you. Change doesn’t always happen in a straight line. Sometimes we know exactly where we want to go, and sometimes figuring out the destination is part of the journey. Wherever you are when we meet, that’s where we’ll begin.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming and you may want to make changes but not know how. You may even have tried different things but nothing has worked consistently or enabled you to live the life you envision for yourself. I work with teens, young adults and adults many who seek therapy to address anxiety, depression, trauma and life transitions. I also work with with athletes and high performing executives to enhance performance, vitality and overall well-being. My journey has included being a collegiate Academic and Athletic All-American Swimmer, psychologist, teacher, parent, and coach. I've spent over 25 years studying and practicing psychology and holistic healing including: energy medicine, healing arts, Reiki, meditation, and astrology. I take all of that and customize treatment to facilitate your well-being. We look at where you are in life right now in comparison to where you want to be and I help empower you on your journey to mindfully creating the life you desire. Clifton, New Jersey therapist: Dr. Mike Abrams, psychologist
Integrative

Dr. Mike Abrams

Psychologist, PhD, MBA, ABPP
I limit my practice to a few clients with whom I can offer meaningful help. I do not think it is ethical for a psychologist to agree to work with someone who has a problem outside of their expertise or someone who has barriers that the psychologist suspects they cannot overcome. When I conclude that I can help someone, I collaborate with them while applying the most appropriate methods for their problems. I choose these methods from among the many I have studied or developed. This is sometimes called a Transdiagnostic Integrative technique. Here, a clinical label or diagnosis is less important than the unique collection of symptoms a person is living with. I also make sure that I come to understand the client's point of view, how their adversities, their personal philosophy, and their level of suffering combine to lead to their anxiety, depressed mood, or even anger. When the client agrees, I prefer to use psychological testing to be sure my assessment of the client's situation is supported by the best available science. When I conduct psychotherapy, I know it can only be effective when I view the client as presenting many intricate problems that must be fully understood, so each client's issues are approached as scientific hypotheses that guide therapy, which guide my specific interventions, but is always open to revision as new life history information or psychological data becomes available. Since I have trained numerous therapists and continue researching and publishing in the field, my clients are assured they receiving the most effective evidence-based interventions. If you do see me, you can be confident that you will be unconditionally accepted in a safe and comfortable therapeutic relationship with every effort being made to help you.
