Registered Psychotherapist, Amanda Guilfoyle. M.Gestalt T. B.SocSci (Couns)
I have worked extensively with children and adolescents both one on one and running therapeutic groups in schools. I have also worked as a school counsellor in primary schools and high schools . When working with children the adults and carers in their life are always invited to be part of the process. I connect easily with children and young people and work alongside family ,carers and support workers to navigate and dissipate challenging behaviour . There is so much hope for children in therapy to be able to express themsleves in creative ways , give language to their emotional needs and learn different behaviours that will better support their life socially , emotionally and educationally . The teenage years can be fraught with difficulies due to the enormous growth happening on so many levels . This often leaves parents feeling bewildered . Therapeutic support can be beneficial as the young person navigates all these changes. I use a range of evidence based modalities such as Play therapy , Sand tray therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapy . I also use poly- vagal techniques. Therapy can be fun for young ones !
Psychologist, Masters in Clinical Psychology, Ph.D.
We have recently developed a whole arm of the practice devoted to child and family issues (psychstuff4kids). At this practice we work with a focus on the whole family system. Anxiety is the most common problem in children but we are also often asked to help with school refusal, autism spectrum issues and anger management. In adolescence, anxiety remains prevalent but we also see an depression, self-harm urges and body and eating issues. We have the skilled psychologists and the knowledge to help you to help your kids.
Supporting children and adolescents through their unique challenges requires sensitivity and a tailored approach. I work with young people to navigate issues such as anxiety, peer pressure, academic stress, and identity development. By creating a safe and understanding environment, I help them express their feelings, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies. My approach involves collaborating closely with families to ensure that the support provided is holistic, fostering emotional well-being and helping young individuals thrive during these formative years.
Children and adolescents are increasingly the focus of concern for many adults, including their parents and other key family members or friend. We have staff who specialise in working with particular age groups, from pre-schoolers (when the adults caring for the child are key people included in the therapy) through to older adolescents whose needs for independence are often needing to be balanced with responsibility and risk. Good therapy provided for these age groups can set the individual up for successful relationships into the future and promote their ability to seek further support as required into the future.
I have experience working with parents, children and adolescents, and families. With online therapy, children fare best with parenting support, while I also see adolescents and/or parents when an adolescent is facing difficulties. I have experience with CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapies for young people.
