Most people have had a "Bout of the Blues" at one point or another in their lifetime. Depression is much more than this- it is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. For many people with depression, symptoms usually are severe enough to cause noticeable problems in day-to-day activities, such as work, school, social activities or relationships with others. Some people may feel generally miserable or unhappy without really knowing why. It can affect how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Depression may require long-term treatment. This isn’t a reason to get discouraged; Most people with depression feel better with treatment.
Some common symptoms may include:
Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness, Angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters, Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, such as sex, hobbies or sports, Sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much, Tiredness and lack of energy, so even small tasks take extra effort, Reduced appetite and weight loss or increased cravings for food and weight gain, Anxiety, agitation or restlessness, Slowed thinking, speaking or body movements, Feelings of worthlessness or guilt, fixating on past failures or self-blame, trouble thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things, Frequent or recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts or suicide, Unexplained physical problems, such as back pain or headaches.
I have helped many people regain a sense of joy and meaning in their lives through the management of their depressive symptoms. By empowering individuals with the ability to develop healthy cognitive patterns and beliefs about themselves and the world, they are able to return to their previous level of functioning and to prevent a relapse of depressive symptoms.

I am one of the few (only?) therapists, who understands the connection between depression and low blood sugar. Low blood sugar is an epidemic due to SAD: Standard American Diet. My protocols for fixing diet are mostly effortless. Once low blood sugar is stablized, THEN you we release and heal the root causes of the depression, most often found in childhood.

The majority of people will go through a depression at least once through the course of their life and more. Sometime life seems to bring us so much at one time that one no longer can cope in a healthy way. It is when someone turns to addictive behavior: alcohol, drugs, sex, gambling and other. I can only hope that therapy will be the choice of learning healthy coping mechanisms and figuring out the source of the depression.
