Trauma and PTSD

Vanessa Roddenberry

Psychologist, Ph.D.
I'm a trauma specialist, highly trained in providing cutting-edge evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD. Know that your trauma is valid. I operate from a trauma-informed perspective so that we ask the very important question of "what happened" and can place your current problems within this very important context. An event may be traumatic for many different reasons. Some traumas may be overt, while others may be subtle and happen over a long time. All that matters is that if something is traumatic to you, we will honor it as such and work to understand and heal its effects. I help clients process difficult life events safely and compassionately, while also fostering resilience and posttraumatic growth. I use gold standard PTSD treatments of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), as well as trauma-informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and compassion-focused work. I have worked with many different forms of trauma and in various settings such as the Veterans Affairs Hospital system and outpatient settings.

In addition to leading seminars to train other professionals in marriage counseling, I have benefited by receiving extensive professional training from most of the leading marriage counseling experts in the country, including but not limited to John Gottman, Susan Johnson, John Gray, Harville Hendrix, Virginia Satyr, Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson, Gary Brainard, Frank Pittman, Shirley Glass, Janice Abrahms Spring, and Neil Jacobson. In conducting counseling, I am fortunate to be able to choose from numerous resources including principles from Gottman's research, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Mars & Venus Counseling, Imago Therapy, Positive Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Systems Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Rogerian Therapy, Integrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Reality Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Gestalt Techniques, NLP, and EMDR. Houston, Texas therapist: Christine Henry, psychologist
Trauma and PTSD

Christine Henry

Psychologist, Ph.D
Trauma doesn't necessarily have to be a single event. Instead, smaller, prolonged, or recurring stressful experiences can also be classified as traumatic. I work with clients who want to find ways to calm their nervous system so they aren't in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze. They want to learn what their wants and needs are instead of being solely focused on making others around them happy. Learning to set boundaries is challenging but can significantly improve your relationships. Learning how to trust again may feel difficult, and therapy can be the first step in this process.

When the foundation of trust shaken (if not feeling broken) through experiences of trauma, the approach to restoring one's life must always be one of sensitivity, patience, and compassion. Without this, there will always be a risk that it will never feel safe enough to heal.
