This is also why sexual addiction can be so difficult to break. Many clients have indicated that others have told them to just stop which has been ineffective. That is because trauma is often the cause and this requires specialized therapy and treatment. I commonly will include the partner into therapy as well for support and to also develop healthy boundaries and support which leads to trust being restored and a healthy relationship dynamic. Talk therapy alone is not effective. Otherwise, anyone could simply say to just change what you are doing, and then you would change, but that does not work. Our goal is to make lasting and desired changes to promote healthy relationships and positive interactions, free from any addiction so you can just be you.
