Codependency is something I'm deeply familiar with — both professionally and personally — and it's one of my greatest passions to work on with clients. At its core, I think of codependency as a struggle with interdependence: being connected to others while still remaining a separate person with your own needs, feelings, and limits. It often shows up as putting others' needs first, tying your own wellbeing to someone else's, or feeling compelled to fix or manage another person's pain. Trauma and neurodivergence can both quietly set us up for these patterns — when your needs have been dismissed or overlooked, it makes sense that you learn to deprioritize them. One of the most powerful early steps is just naming what's been happening: education alone can feel like you're finally getting a map of your inner life. From there, we do the real healing work with whatever we discover. For clients who are open to it, we may also explore peer support options, including 12-step communities organized around codependency recovery — though this is always entirely your call.
