It's important to recognize that receiving a diagnosis of HIV can be a very overwhelming and emotional experience. It's common to experience feelings of shock, fear, anxiety, and uncertainty about the future. Connecting with community organisations, such as ACON in NSW, can provide a supportive environment for people who are newly diagnosed and coming to terms with the diagnosis and its implications. For those who have already received support or for loved ones seeking to talk through thoughts and feelings further, I offer a safe and non-judgmental space to explore what it means to live with HIV/AIDS in the 21st century. It's important to understand that the medical system has made significant advancements in treating and managing HIV, and much of the fear and stigma surrounding HIV is rooted in a historical context. Through counselling, we can work together to address any negative beliefs or emotions surrounding HIV and develop strategies to manage the physical and emotional challenges that may arise.
