Stress is a signal that we are under some sort of threat. Stress is not always bad, it is an excellent adaptive mechanism. When it is there for too long, it generalizes situations, and can be detrimental for relationships, physical and emotional health. I help discover the root cause of stress.
Life can be stressful. We are all pulled in some many directions with so many obligations. If you need to find inner peace, practice self-love and/or self-care, I can help you learn how. You can find balance in your life again.
How we handle stress is directly related to how well we function overall. When we're stressed, chemicals are released into our body that increase our heart rate, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. This is good in a stressful situation, but not so good when we're ALWAYS stressed. Being stressed without an equal, if not more, amount of time when we're relaxed can lead to mental and physical problems. The prevention? An ability to say "no" to the people, places and things that don't serve us and rob us of our most precious commodity: time.
We've all experienced stress - you are probably feeling it right now as you explore the possibility of working with a new therapist! Stress can feel like a boulder weighing you down, or a tiny thorn in the bottom of your foot that just never relents. The results of stress are many, as it can create and contribute to many different physical, emotional and cognitive symptoms. The good news is that there are strategies and tools that can help relieve the impacts of stress. The two primary therapeutic approaches that I use with clients are both evidence-based treatments for reducing symptoms of stress. Accelerated Resolution Therapy often reduces the negative emotional reaction to stress triggers in an average of 1 to 5 sessions. Cognitive Behavior Therapy helps clients identify and replace the unhelpful thinking that leads to uncomfortable feelings and less preferred actions, creating a change in perspective. Together, these two approaches can help bring faster relief from the impacts of stress and "clear your headspace" to learn new strategies and tools for helping yourself cope better with life's challenges.
I have a passion for helping clients reduce anxiety, stress, confusion, sadness, and pain - so that they can live more fulfilling, authentic, and happy lives. Many of my clients have stated that coming to therapy has helped to catapult them out of their stagnation - enabling them to reach their full potential. For clients who have had difficulty finding a therapist who can understand their complex and intersecting identities, I can be a breath of fresh air. I work with folks ages 15 and up.
Work stress and life stressors can become overwhelming at times. Sometimes one doesn't want to overburden their loved ones with their stressors. Yet we all need to know how and when to ask to have our needs met. I can help with that.
