Social anxiety has it's root in a lack self-love. When we are not consciously and/or unconsciously comfortable with ourselves, we are immediately fearful of rejection from the people around us. This results in a heightened arousal of the nervous system to prepare for rejection, judgement, and failure.

Many people struggle with social anxiety issues. This may be a result of conditioning or negative experiences. I work with clients to identify the root cause and apply relevant therapy to achieve lasting results. Therapie may include EMDR, CBT and clinical hypnosis.
In working with social anxiety, we address characteristic issues around: hypervigilance, constant self-evaluation, mental block, rumination and withdrawal from others. If it's useful, we might work together to uncover patterns and past experiences that could have contribute to your anxiety. We might also explore themes around authenticity, freedom, and the meaning of relationships.
Social anxiety isolates us. It's about feeling fearful of going out into the world and being you; fearful of negative judgement and lacking a sense of belonging and feeling safe in a social environment, which we all need to thrive. I work with clients who are socially anxious to help them understand their anxiety and what they can do to work with it and build a stronger connection to themselves and others.

Social anxiety may be a problem for people who are otherwise successful particularly in their working lives. I try to help people understand this problem in the context of a lack of self esteem. I try to help them with what may become an avoidance of social situations which narrows their lives.
Social anxiety can be triggered by interactions at work, social events, or even everyday conversations with acquaintances, colleagues, friends, or family members. Together, we'll explore that side of you that feels anxious in social situations and find ways to navigate it. By working with your mind-body response patterns, we can bring about healing, change, and a greater sense of ease in relationships.

Social anxiety is certainly an area of speciality and interest for me as a clinical psychologist. I aim to help the client understand their anxiety better and to develop effective ways of managing anxiety. Anxiety can really get in the way of living and experiencing life the way we want, and my work is focused on helping clients develop the ability to once again move in valued directions without anxiety being in control any more.
In our current climate, we are seeing more clients presenting with symptoms of Social Anxiety. These symptoms are treatable and we would be pleased to support you to feel more confident and comfortable in your environment.
