One of the difficult parts about depression is having people understand what you are experiencing. People around you might tell you to "get your act together" but little do they know that it feels nearly impossible to even get out of bed. We move forward by working together to challenge negative thought processes, set meaningful and manageable goals, identify their strengths, and more.
I have alot of experience helping people manage their depression. I like to start with CBT to give my patient immediate methods to confront the depressive thoughts. I also like to educate and assess for medication issues and for suicide and safety concerns. We can slowly build up goals to help the patient feel hope and confidence.
When we are depressed, we feel deeply overwhelmed, helpless, and discouraged. I will work with you to help you explore your depressed inner parts with respect and compassion, which often involves discussion of relevant family and life history that may have contributed to your struggles. I will also work to help you find your life energy, a lot of which may be disowned feelings of anger and sadness. Perhaps a bit counterintuitively, letting ourselves feel those feelings is often the path towards letting passion and joy into our lives.
