Iris Bowen (She/Her)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, MBA
 therapist: Iris Bowen,
Online in Pennsylvania, Texas (Online Only)
My orientation to therapy is grounded in liberatory, strengths-based, and relational frameworks. My goal is to partner with you against that which is preventing you from creating a meaningful, value-aligned life: A life full of vitality, where you maintain a balanced connection to both your inner world and your community. I consider the material conditions (social, political, economic) around you when offering coping strategies, and aim to support your healing while holding space for any active harms or atrocities you may be experiencing (direct and indirect).

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Brainspotting A therapy that uses eye positions to access and process unresolved trauma. It helps release emotional and physical pain held in the body.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: The main modalities I use in sessions are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I am also trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy, Brainspotting, and Somatic Experiencing, and integrate these into my practice when appropriate or requested. I am a good fit for someone who enjoys a relational framework, a variety of styles, a flexible approach, and semi-structured sessions with regular check-ins. I have significant experience with folks who are brand new to therapy, folks who have been in therapy long-term and feel they plateaued, and folks who have had harmful experiences with therapists and are looking to have a reparative experience. I am not a good fit for someone who wants CBT, medical-model treatment (especially for OCD, such as ERP), or a very directive therapist. I am a privacy-focused therapist and can work with activists, organizers, and other community members who may have concerns about traditional modes of documentation re: diagnosis and session notes.
