Treatment Approach

  • Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Contemplative Psychotherapy Combines mindfulness and meditation practices with modern psychology. It encourages awareness and compassion as part of the healing process.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Combines mindfulness practices with CBT to prevent depression relapse. It helps people notice thoughts without judgment and respond more calmly.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
Approach Description: We believe therapy is most effective when it is tailored to the individual rather than built around a single method. Our therapists integrate evidence-based techniques with insight-oriented and relational approaches, adapting treatment to each client's personality, concerns, goals, and preferences. Depending on the client, therapy may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills to improve emotional regulation and coping, psychodynamic therapy to explore deeper patterns and past experiences, and mindfulness-based techniques to increase awareness and reduce reactivity. Our clinicians may draw from additional approaches when appropriate for a client's particular needs. Just as important as the specific techniques used is the relationship between therapist and client. We strive to create a warm, collaborative, nonjudgmental environment where clients can speak openly, develop greater insight, learn practical skills, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.

Allied Psychotherapy Group Practice Description
Allied Psychotherapy Group is a New York psychotherapy practice offering compassionate, individualized therapy for adults, adolescents, couples, and families. We understand that finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, so we make the process easier by taking the time to learn about your needs, concerns, preferences, and goals before helping you find a therapist who is a good fit. Our clinicians work with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, ADHD, relationship difficulties, stress, identity concerns, life transitions, and other emotional or behavioral challenges. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, our therapists draw from multiple therapeutic methods and tailor treatment to each client. We place a strong emphasis on creating a supportive, collaborative relationship where clients feel understood, respected, and comfortable being themselves. We offer both in-person therapy at our Manhattan office near Union Square, Flatiron, and Gramercy Park, as well as secure online therapy for clients throughout New York State. We accept Aetna, Cigna, Wellfleet, and Northwell insurance and also offer sliding-scale options for clients seeking more affordable therapy. New clients can begin with a complimentary 15-minute consultation. One of our co-founders will speak with you about what you are looking for and help match you with an appropriate therapist. If the first match does not feel right, we will work with you to find another clinician who may be a better fit.
