Working with my deep understanding of early attachment disappointments, you and I can work together to repair those lost connections and find new, stronger ones.
I am an experienced clinician. I have worked successfully with a wide range of patients and keep a diverse practice because I highly value the experience of working with people from different backgrounds and lifestyles
The paralysis experienced when depressed is best illustrated by Dick Cavett who said, that the "depths of depression are so overwhelming that if a magic wand was available to rid the symptoms, you'd be too fatigued and hopeless to use it." The feelings of meaningless, powerlessness, and exhaustion are often compounded by messages from others and perhaps yourself that "you just need to try harder" creating a cascade of diminished self-esteem, and increased self-blame.
You do not need to languish in silence, alone. Psychotherapy can help you to regain a sense of purpose, energy and meaning in your life.
I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy for Depression, Skills Training for Affective and Interpersonal Regulation, Internal Family Systems, Schema Therapy and am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
I help others manage and resolve difficulties of the heart - love, loss, and work during significant life changes/transitions; e.g., career/job change, death/illness in family, divorce, addiction/recovery, etc.
Our work starts by acknowledging the social, cultural, and environmental conditions that may contribute to the problems that affect your quality of life and capacity to receive or engage in mental health care. Therapy is tailored to your preferences to minimize stressors and build skills for interacting more effectively with the outside world. The behaviors, emotions, relationship patterns, or self-beliefs that no longer work for you can be transformed, rather than pathologized by identifying external power imbalances that impede quality of life and highlighting the good intentions behind difficult interactions.
Seeking therapy for depression provides clients with a safe space to express their emotions, learn their specific triggers and patterns, and create coping strategies to help you build resilience, self-esteem, and confidence. We will work collaboratively to empower you to make positive changes in your life so you can experience greater emotional well-being and fulfillment.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW-R, Licensed Psychotherapist, Trauma-Certified
Hello and welcome! I've been providing therapy for individuals and couples for over 15 years and one of the areas that I specialize in is helping people who are dealing with depression and low self-esteem. If you are experiencing trouble focusing, coping with excessive sadness, hopelessness, low-motivation, feelings of worthlessness, and loss of interest and pleasure, these are some signs that you may be struggling with depression. I can help you develop the tools and strategies to reduce these intense feelings. You will discover your own unique strengths, resources and inherent wisdom while experiencing more joy and a sense of control over your life.
Depression can affect many areas in your life and can have a negative impact on social interactions and relationships, your ability to work optimally, and on self-care. It can take away your energy for activities once enjoyed. It may be felt as a general sadness or “feeling down” or more intense loss of ability to function as you once did and can cause problems with sleep and diet (which further affect your well-being). My focus will be on exploring your unique situation and goals, and I'll tailor the therapy in a way that will benefit YOU the most. You’ll feel empowered and motivated to change negative patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that perpetuate depression. This can help you be happier, function in a productive way and feel more fulfilled in life. For further information please see my practice description and personal statement about my therapy approach and how I may be able to help. I look forward to working with you!

Depression can look like exhaustion or a lack of motivation. There’s often a flatness or a disinterest in things that were once pleasurable. Depression is often described as a sustained feeling of sadness, pointlessness or grief. It can be intense or subtle but it is ongoing (generally for a number of weeks or longer). There is often a feeling of worthlessness. Together, we can discuss ways to treat the depression. I have a number of tools, including wonderful colleagues, with whom to collaborate, in order for you to feel better and be yourself again.

Loss, failure, or undeserved plight are associated with depression. I will teach you how you disturb yourself when you experience these things and how to stop disturbing yourself by learning to change what you can change and accept what you cannot. There are occasions when people have pure biologically based depressions, but often distorted thinking and rigid attitudes are major factors in depression.

Depression is a clinical condition which causes a person to feel extremely low for extended periods of time. It is caused by a combination of genetic, biological, psychological, social and environmental factors. Psychotherapy can be an effective treatment for depression because it can help you delve into the underlying reasons for your depression and learn new coping skills. Incorporating practical techniques to help you to reframe "depressed " negative thinking is also immensely helpful. The goal is for you to regain a sense of control and to eventually derive more pleasure from life.
