Therapy for People Raised Online (He/Him)

Registered Psychotherapist, CRPO #21389
therapist: Therapy for People Raised Online,
Online in Ontario
Hi, my name is Dennis Liu. Many of the men I see aren’t in crisis. They’re stuck. Friends are getting promoted, moving in with partners, buying places, and you’re still trying to get your mornings under control. The plan to finally change keeps resetting every Monday. That doesn’t mean you’re lazy or broken. Growing up online shaped how a lot of us handle boredom, stress, connection, and even rest. Gaming, scrolling, and porn are easy places to go when real life feels heavy, and over time they can quietly take more than you meant to give them. Book a free 20-minute consultation on my website!

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
Approach Description: I use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to make problems concrete: what sets off the urge, what thoughts come with it, what you do next, and what it costs you. From there, we build skills you can practise between sessions. I pair that with a humanistic, strengths-based stance. You know your life best, so the goals come from you, and we build on what’s already working instead of only fixing what isn’t. I won’t lecture you about screen time or tell you to throw out your console. We’ll figure out what role each habit plays and what would help you feel in control again.

Therapy for People Raised Online Practice Description
Who is Dennis Liu? Dennis Liu is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), CRPO #21389, and the therapist behind Therapy for People Raised Online. He provides individual therapy for men in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and online across Ontario, under clinical supervision. His main focus areas are relationship problems, anxiety, and porn use. Do you offer relationship therapy for men? Yes. Relationship problems are one of the most common reasons men seek therapy. I help men with breakups and separation, trust after infidelity (whether you cheated or were cheated on), recurring arguments, communication problems, setting boundaries, feeling disconnected from a partner, dating that goes nowhere, and loneliness. I work with men one-on-one, including men whose partner isn’t ready for therapy. We look at your patterns in conflict, how you handle hurt and anger, and what you want from a relationship, then practise new ways of showing up. I don’t offer couples sessions. Can you help men with anxiety, stress, and burnout? Yes. Anxiety in men often shows up as irritability, overthinking at night, avoiding calls and plans, overworking until burnout, or not being able to switch off. I help with generalized anxiety, stress, burnout, social anxiety, rumination, panic attacks, and performance pressure at work or school. Using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), we find what keeps the anxiety going, test the thoughts behind it, and build skills to calm your body and face what you’ve been avoiding. Can you help with porn addiction or compulsive porn use? Yes. I work with men whose porn use feels out of control, including concerns about sex addiction and compulsive sexual behaviour, secrecy and its impact on relationships, and the anxiety that can follow into real intimacy, such as sexual performance anxiety. We look at what drives the urge, set goals you choose, and build a plan to change the pattern without shame. For erectile difficulties, I also recommend a check-up with your doctor. What else do you help men with? Anger and emotional control, low motivation and procrastination, feeling behind in work or life, self-esteem and confidence, depression, and problematic gaming or social media use. What is your therapy approach? I use CBT with a humanistic, strengths-based approach. Sessions are practical and conversational: we set goals together, try specific changes between sessions, and review what’s working. I understand the online world many men grew up in, so there’s no need to explain gaming, online communities, or internet culture. Who do you work with? Adult men, especially young adults. I also see people of any gender dealing with relationships, anxiety, or life online, and second-generation Canadians balancing family expectations with their own. How much does therapy cost, and is it covered by insurance? Individual sessions are $125 for 50 minutes, online or in person. The first 20-minute consultation is free. Psychotherapy is covered by many extended health plans, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield, Desjardins, and Medavie Blue Cross. I don’t direct bill; you receive a receipt after each session to submit to your plan. Check that your plan covers a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). Where is the office, and do you offer online therapy? The office is at 30 Fulton Way, Unit 8, Suite 117, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 1E6, near Leslie Street and Highway 7 on the Markham border, with free parking and an accessible ground-floor entrance. Online therapy is by secure video for clients anywhere in Ontario, including Toronto, Markham, Vaughan, and Ottawa. Appointments are on weekdays, including some early evenings. What is your training and experience? MA in Counselling Psychology, Yorkville University. Honours BSc in Mental Health, University of Toronto. Clinical experience at a men’s mental health practice. Over 400 one-on-one coaching sessions before becoming a therapist, and mental health education roles with CAMH and Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. How do I book? Book a free 20-minute consultation at raisedonline.ca or call 647-926-9070. This practice does not provide crisis support. If you’re in crisis, call or text 9-8-8 any time.
