Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Art Therapy Uses creative activities like drawing, painting, or sculpture as a way to express emotions. It is especially helpful when words are hard to find.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) An evidence-based treatment for PTSD that teaches clients to reframe unhelpful thoughts about trauma. It helps reduce guilt, shame, and fear.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
- Eclectic Therapy Draws from different therapeutic methods based on what fits each client best. It is flexible and personalized rather than following one single model.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
- Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
- Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
- Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
- Neuropsychology Examines how brain function affects thinking, memory, and behavior. It often involves assessment and rehabilitation strategies.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Play Therapy Uses toys, games, and creative play to help children express emotions. It is especially useful when children can’t fully verbalize their feelings.
- Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
- Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: Our approach is collaborative, affirming, and rooted in curiosity and compassion. We tailor therapy to each client’s goals, needs, and lived experience — especially centering the voices and needs of LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals. We integrate modalities such as IFS-informed work, mindfulness, CBT, DBT, CPT, EMDR, somatic strategies, and narrative therapy through a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive lens. Whether you’re seeking support for identity exploration, healing from trauma, or navigating life transitions, we aim to create a space where you can feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive - not just survive.

Our virtual sessions are available to individuals, couples, and families located anywhere in North Carolina, as well as in over 43+ PsyPact states for eligible providers. All you need is a device with internet access, audio/video capability, and a private space. Our online therapy experience is designed to feel just as connected and supportive as in-person care — minus the commute. Whether you’re seeking LGBTQIA+ affirming therapy, neurodivergent-affirming support, trauma-focused care, or are navigating life transitions, we’re here to help - virtually and accessibly.
At Be BOLD Psychology and Consulting, we’re not your typical therapy practice. We’re a queer and woman-owned, trauma-informed, neurodivergent-affirming team of humans who believe therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and tailored to the very real, often messy, always meaningful lives we lead.
We offer virtual therapy across North Carolina and over 43 PSYPACT states, as well as in-person sessions in Durham, North Carolina. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, your relationship, your child, or your family, we’re here to offer affirming care that actually fits you. Our talented and diverse team of clinicians also offer evening and weekend openings, to ensure the best fit for you or your family!
We specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent clients — including Autistic folks and ADHDers — but we also support anyone feeling overwhelmed by life’s transitions, grief, anxiety, trauma, relationship stress, today's dumpster fire, or identity exploration. If you’re navigating life changes, trying to set boundaries with people who do not add support to your world, or carrying heavy stuff you’ve tucked away for years, you’re not alone . and you don’t have to untangle it by yourself.
We also comprehensive, neuroaffirming psychological evaluations (including Autism and ADHD assessments) for folks ages 6 and up. This includes evaluations that can help navigate IEPs and 504's, or any other resource and accommodation seeking that may be needed. Our team of forensically trained psychologists also offer court-ordered and forensic evaluations for those navigating legal systems, custody disputes, or probation/parole related mental health evaluations. And yes - we strive to make our evaluation services, while objective and grounded in best-practice, affirming as well.
In addition to individual, couples, and family therapy, we offer a variety of therapy groups for teens and adults. These include spaces for queer and gender-diverse folx, grief and loss support, ADHD and anxiety support, and even groups for folks navigating the ups and downs of separation or divorce. Groups are a powerful way to realize you’re not the only one — and connection heals in ways that individual therapy alone sometimes can’t.
We’re also proud to offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) - a powerful, evidence-based approach to help folks heal from trauma, anxiety, and distressing life experiences. If you’ve been feeling stuck in the past, EMDR can help your brain and body process what’s happened so you can move forward with less reactivity and more peace. It’s not about rehashing every detail - it’s about helping you feel more regulated, grounded, and free. Our practice offers a variety of options, including 60-minute and 90-minute sessions, as well as lengthier EMDR intensives.
And for family members or romantic partners ready to dig deeper and reconnect, we offer relationship therapy intensives - extended sessions designed to jumpstart progress when weekly therapy just doesn’t cut it. Whether you’re in crisis, feeling disconnected, or trying to break old patterns once and for all, intensives give us the time and space to get to the root of what’s happening. These sessions are custom-built for couples, friends, co-parents, or family members who want to move from surviving to actually thriving in their relationships.
We know it can be hard to make that first call or send that email (especially when you’ve had to repeat your story or explain your identity more times than you can count). That’s why we make it easy to self-schedule a free 20-minute consult. You’ll be met by a real person, not a robot or a referral form black hole, and we’ll help you find a clinician who’s a good fit. No insurance hoops. No long waitlists. No pretending to be someone you’re not.
If you’re looking for a space where you can cuss a little (or a lot), bring your dog to your virtual session, talk about hard things without being judged, and actually feel seen, we’d be honored to work with you.
Let’s get to work, together!
