From Our Founder
Clear Minds Counselling was built around a simple idea: **therapy should create change.**
Too often, people come to us after spending years understanding their struggles. They can tell us where a pattern came from, recognize that a reaction isn't helping them, and know exactly what they *should* be doing differently—yet when real life happens, the same response takes over.
That isn't because they haven't tried hard enough. It's because understanding something consciously doesn't necessarily change what the brain and body have learned to do automatically.
That's why we operate differently.
At Clear Minds, our therapists don't rely on one approach or simply sit across from you and talk about the problem. We work **bottom up, top down and side to side**, using evidence-based, neuroscience-informed and experiential approaches to address thoughts and beliefs, nervous-system responses, unconscious patterns and learned reactions.
We believe in creating experiences within therapy that allow clients to practice something different—not just understand something differently. We challenge patterns, build practical skills, regulate responses and help clients create new evidence that the brain can use to update what it has learned from the past.
Our therapists have their own personalities, specialties and clinical approaches, but the philosophy behind Clear Minds remains consistent: **therapy should translate into real life.**
Whether you're coming to us for individual, couples or family counselling, our goal isn't to keep you in therapy forever. It's to help you understand what's happening, change the patterns that are getting in your way, and develop skills you can continue using long after you leave our office.
**You don't have to keep repeating the same patterns.**
Maybe you're ready for something different.

Treatment Approach
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
- Adlerian Therapy Focuses on understanding a person’s sense of belonging and purpose. It helps people overcome feelings of inferiority and create healthier relationships.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
- Experiential Therapy Involves hands-on activities to bring emotions into the present moment. It helps clients process feelings more deeply than through conversation alone.
- Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
- Gestalt Therapy Encourages awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions in the present moment. It helps people integrate different parts of themselves for wholeness.
- Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Psychoanalytic Therapy Based on Freud’s theories, it explores unconscious conflicts and past experiences. It seeks to bring hidden issues into awareness.
- Psychodrama A group therapy that uses role-play and dramatization to process emotions. It helps clients gain perspective and release tension.
- Psychodynamic Therapy Explores unconscious thoughts and patterns that influence current behavior. It builds insight into how the past impacts the present.
- Psychosocial Therapy Looks at how social and environmental factors affect psychological health. It emphasizes relationships, community, and resilience.
- Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.

Clear Minds Counselling is a multi-therapist counselling practice providing **individual, couples, marriage and family counselling in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, Alberta**, with virtual counselling available throughout Alberta.
We work with children, youth, adults, couples and families experiencing anxiety, trauma and PTSD, depression, relationship difficulties, communication challenges, emotional regulation concerns, grief and loss, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, executive functioning challenges and recurring patterns that interfere with everyday life.
**Our approach is different.**
We believe effective therapy requires more than talking about a problem or understanding where it came from. Our therapists draw from evidence-based, neuroscience-informed and experiential approaches that allow us to work **bottom up, top down and side to side**—addressing thoughts and beliefs while also working with nervous-system responses, learned reactions and patterns that can happen automatically.
Our team uses a range of therapeutic approaches based on the needs of each client rather than expecting every person to fit into one therapeutic model. Treatment may incorporate solution-focused therapy, cognitive and behavioural approaches, experiential interventions, nervous-system regulation, guided imagery, mindfulness, skill development and other clinically appropriate strategies.
We are practical and active in the therapy room. Clients can expect more than simply being asked how something makes them feel. We help identify what is happening, understand why it is happening, challenge what is keeping the pattern in place and develop practical ways to respond differently when real life happens.
Clear Minds Counselling offers **in-person appointments in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge**, as well as **virtual counselling across Alberta**, with daytime, evening and weekend availability.
