Treatment Approach

  • Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) A trauma-focused therapy that uses eye movements and imagery to help the brain reframe distressing memories. It often leads to quicker relief from symptoms compared to traditional talk therapy.
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Light Therapy (Phototherapy) Uses exposure to bright light to regulate mood. It is best known for treating seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) A collaborative, client-centered approach that strengthens motivation for change. It is especially effective for addictions and health behaviors.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: If a miracle happened overnight and you woke to the life you want, what would be different in the morning? How would you feel? What would you be doing in your day that is different from now? In the safety of a caring and supportive relationship, we can explore your answers to these questions, and together create a plan to help you reach your goals. I meet you where you are, tailoring my approach to the ways you find most helpful. I listen with empathy and attunement to make sure we both have a good understanding of what you wish to gain from therapy. Some people prefer direct feedback and suggestions, others want an open space to explore their thoughts and feelings, and some want a mix of both. With 30 years of experience, 20 of which I have spent focusing on infertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and loss, I bring a wealth of knowledge, humor, flexibility, and humility to the process. I will work with you to find the strategies that help you take steps towards change, and also honor the moments when just sitting together with feelings or new perspectives about your life is what is needed.

Dr. Colby Cohen-Archer Practice Description
I have a solo private-pay practice, giving me full flexibility to work with you in the way that is the best fit for you, and the way that helps you get what you want from therapy most effectively. I use a variety of treatment approaches, and explain the options, listening for what is important to you. This way you and I work together to create a therapy that helps you reach your goals. This may look like telling your story, finding a new way to think about a situation, practicing skills for calming the body, using eye movements to help your brain heal from trauma, exploring your values and what gives life meaning and purpose, exploring connections between your past and present relationships, or talking through the difficulties of big life transitions. I specialize in reproductive psychology (pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, pregnancy loss), as well as insomnia and OCD. However, I also often help people with career changes, relationship issues, general depression and anxiety.
