Treatment Approach
- Behavioral Therapy Uses learning techniques like reinforcement and practice to change unwanted behaviors. It is often applied to phobias, anxiety, and habits.
- Biopsychosocial Therapy Takes into account biological, psychological, and social factors in understanding mental health. It looks at the whole person, not just symptoms.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
- Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
- Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
- Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
- Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
- Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
- Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: Pain can be overwhelming. It might follow an injury, like from sports or a car accident; or a health diagnosis, like hypermobility, cancer, or menopause. It might also start to show up more as other areas of your life become more stressful, such as with burnout, caretaking, or grief. Our bodies may start to feel less reliable which contributes to feelings like scared and overwhelmed. This may become an even bigger problem when you can’t find or get in to see the right provider that might actually help you.
I help you understand and accept the things that are influencing your pain as well as identify which are beyond your control and which are within your control – and how to deal with both.
I use a pain psychology approach. This starts with a thorough assessment, offers a conceptualization of what is going on for you, and teaches concrete skills and strategies to reduce distress and increase your ability to live a life aligned with your values.
Each treatment plan is very individualized based on your available time, energy, and finances. This might mean 1-3 appointments to get to the right next place in your pain management journey or it might mean I become your regular therapist. Regardless of what your process ends up looking like, it is done as a team with you and me as well as any loved one or other health care providers you choose to loop in.
I care deeply, partly due to my own experience with pain. I believe in you and your future. I know how to nurture a productive and safe relationship. People come in overwhelmed and afraid and I guide them to hope and empowerment.

Chronic pain affects 1 in 5 people. This number rises if you are experiencing a time of hormonal change or are part of a minority group. Chronic pain is often misunderstood, downplayed, or even dismissed, along with the mental health realities involved.
My commitment is to empower you with insights and tools to address the root causes of your pain so pain doesn’t control your future. You control your future.
