Kate Regnier (She/Her)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LMSW, LCSW, LICSW
When my clients come to see me, they're attempting to navigate a new life they never wanted or thought they'd have. They're grieving the loss of a spouse or loved one and the loss of a future they were expecting to have. They shame themselves constantly for thinking they didn't do enough or they somehow could've stopped what happened. Imagine you could think of your loved one in a state of peace instead. You could think of them without the disturbing images and stop blaming yourself for not doing enough.

Treatment Approach

  • EMDR
Approach Description: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy technique developed to help individuals cope with and overcome the emotional distress and symptoms associated with traumatic experiences. EMDR is particularly effective for individuals who have experienced post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other trauma-related conditions. EMDR has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of PTSD and other trauma-related conditions. Research suggests that the eye movements or bilateral stimulation used in EMDR may help process traumatic memories by promoting information integration, potentially leading to the alleviation of distress and the formation of healthier beliefs. It's important to note that EMDR may involve dealing with highly emotional and potentially distressing material. The effectiveness of EMDR may vary from person to person, but many individuals have reported significant improvements in their mental well-being and reduction in trauma-related symptoms through this therapeutic approach.

Kate Regnier Practice Description
I use EMDR Therapy to help my client navigate through traumatic grief and loss. My clients come in overwhelmed with uncertainty, fear, shock and guilt and they leave with more peace of mind and self compassion. During our time together, we will reprocess any disturbing images or scenes you have of your loved one. This will allow those images to reduce to the back of your mind and be more distant and will be replaced with more calming and joyful moments of your loved one before their passing. We will also process through any negative beliefs you hold about yourself such as "I didn't do enough" or "My life is meaningless now", and replace them with more rational positive thoughts and beliefs about yourself. What EMDR Therapy for grief is not: - causing you to forget about your loved one or any memories of them -making you suddenly happy or okay with the loss -"fixing" what has happened - toxic positivity that sugarcoats your pain - talk therapy. EMDR is an 8 phrase treatment that helps reduce distress. It is different than talk therapy.
