From the outside, people might think you have it all together. But on the inside, it's a different story. Maybe you feel like your mind is a never ending loop of obsessive and anxious thoughts. Perhaps you feel completely stuck and a romantic relationship that is no longer serving you in its current state, and don't know how to fix it. Maybe you have noticed something isn't working well in your sex life, but feel too ashamed or embarrassed to know how to address it. Maybe you're a queer person, and need an affirming space to process your experience. Perhaps your history of trauma is holding you back from the life you want to live. Or maybe you just feel completely overwhelmed with all the responsibilities you carry, and just need a safe place to set down some of your mental load. My hope is that if any of these resonate with you, you will reach out. Together, we can explore the issues that are currently bothering you by unpacking things at your own pace. Therapy with a non-judgmental, safe, and validating therapist can be a huge help in tackling life's difficulties. Your most authentic self is welcome here.

Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Integrative Therapy Combines techniques from multiple approaches into a customized plan. It adapts to each client’s unique situation and needs.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) Helps clients heal by working with different ‘parts’ of themselves, like inner critics or wounded children. It fosters harmony within the self.
  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) A short-term approach focused on improving relationships and social support. It is often used for depression and grief.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
Approach Description: Underlying my work with each and every client, I aim to provide a safe and secure base for you to feel comfortable engaging in the vulnerable and brave process of self-exploration. I am a big believer that the most important factor is the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client. Together, we can explore how your past might impact your present, and how early childhood experiences and experiences of trauma might be playing a role in your current life difficulties. In addition to focusing on creating a strong therapeutic alliance, I incorporate other approaches based on what is the best fit for the client or couple in front of me. Based on what different clients need or request, I also incorporate ACT, ERP, and/or IFS into our work. For couples, I draw from Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I collaborate with my clients to personalize my approach to your specific needs.

Kate Winderman Practice Description
I am a licensed psychologist with over a decade of experience providing therapy to adults managing any number of issues. Though I was trained as a generalist, my specialty areas include helping those with OCD or anxiety, working with members of the queer community, helping those who have survived trauma, and providing sex therapy to women and queer-identified folks. I am a big believer that the most important factor in a client's success in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Clients have described me as a good listener, nonjudgmental, funny, insightful, and gently challenging. I look forward to hearing from you!
