Driven by compassion and empathy, I am deeply committed to supporting individuals in healing from the impact of mental stress and distressing life experiences through achieving personal growth and enhancing their well-being as they navigate through emotional difficulties and life challenges. I hold the perspective that human suffering arises when we have difficulty reconciling the difference between our reality and our expectations, which leads to disconnection from ourselves in the form of anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. I am here to walk alongside you on your path, whether you are navigating through stressful circumstances, dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic experience, or in need of compassion to feel heard or validated. I truly believe that each individual is the expert on their life and holds the potential to heal through their inner strength and wisdom to improve the quality of their life. With validation, compassion, and trust in the therapeutic relationship, I can help individuals heal from past trauma and support them in moving through emotional complexities. I provide a safe and comfortable environment for our sessions where we can connect and chat about your concerns.

Treatment Approach

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) Builds skills in self-kindness and compassion toward others. It is especially helpful for people who struggle with shame or self-criticism.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) Focuses on strengthening emotional bonds in couples or families. It helps people identify negative cycles and create more secure connections.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) A structured therapy that uses guided eye movements to help process traumatic memories. It is widely recognized for treating PTSD and trauma-related conditions.
  • Family Systems Therapy Looks at problems within the context of the family as a whole. It aims to improve communication and balance in family relationships.
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy Based on decades of research, this method gives couples tools to improve communication, manage conflict, and strengthen intimacy.
  • Multicultural Therapy Acknowledges the role of culture, race, and identity in mental health. It values diversity and adapts treatment to each person’s background.
  • Neuropsychology Examines how brain function affects thinking, memory, and behavior. It often involves assessment and rehabilitation strategies.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.
  • Somatic Therapy Helps clients notice how emotions are stored in the body. It uses breath, movement, and awareness for healing trauma and stress.
Approach Description: My approach is integrative and holistic with a developmentally sensitive lens based on an understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain. My approach allows me to gain insight into a client’s unique developmental experiences and trauma responses with consideration of factors that shape experiences due to systemic oppression, injustice, and discrimination often faced by the BIPOC community. With CBT as my main modality, I also draw from DBT skills training, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapies, attachment-based therapy, EMDR, somatic experiencing, family systems, and Gottman Method.

Reema Qamar Practice Description
With a strong focus on trauma recovery, my practice is dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families with compassion and support as they navigate mental health concerns and life challenges. People often feel trapped and powerless when facing mental health challenges and relational difficulties. With a positive mindset, seeking support can help them move forward in their healing journey and enhance their well-being and quality of life. By engaging in therapy, we address a range of topics such as unpacking trauma experiences, understanding the role of attachment and the neurobiology of trauma, recognizing and regulating emotions, navigating through relational discourse, recognizing the importance of self-care, and managing your overall health and wellness by cultivating self-compassion. In my practice, I use CBT as my main modality with an emphasis on integrating the neurobiology of trauma. I also use EMDR to help clients process traumatic memories and body-based interventions to help them move through their healing process. I have had the privilege of working with youth and adults ranging from 12 to 70 years of age and across various cultures and professional backgrounds. I support individuals with mental health concerns that include anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, grief, relational distress, domestic violence, childhood trauma, PTSD, and sexual trauma. I also help individuals overcome self-esteem issues, acculturative stress, social anxiety, procrastination, and life transitions. I am deeply intrigued by each individual’s intersectionality that informs their unique cultural identity and spirituality. I derive a sense of meaning and fulfillment in engaging in conversations that explore the significance of past experiences and their impact on one’s growth and life trajectory. I believe this is a domain that holds valuable potential for remediating our understanding of ourselves and our purpose in life. As such, I am passionate about working with individuals from all backgrounds and life experiences. Due to my appreciation for diversity and honouring the experiences of others, I work with professionals from various industries such as healthcare, law enforcement, technology, manufacturing, and film. I am also experienced in working with immigrants, refugees, and members of the BIPOC community with awareness of their unique struggles and mental health challenges, as well as the impact of acculturative stress on personal and professional growth. I am fluent in Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi, which allows me to help individuals overcome language barriers. The goal of our therapy sessions together will be to help you develop the mental fortitude needed to heal, achieve personal growth, and enhance your well-being. Moreover, we will work on developing self-compassion, which will allow you to move more easily through difficult times in the future, as well as attain a sense of inner peace and hope to advocate for your well-being. Asking for help is a sign of strength - by being here, you have already taken the first step. Let me support you in your healing journey as you move forward with understanding, confidence, and empowerment.
