Treatment Approach

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Helps people accept difficult thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them, while committing to actions that reflect their values. It blends mindfulness with practical behavior strategies.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) One of the most widely used approaches, CBT helps people identify unhelpful thoughts and replace them with healthier patterns. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions, tolerate stress, and build stronger relationships. Originally designed for borderline personality disorder, it’s now used more broadly.
  • Existential / Humanistic Therapy Encourages people to explore meaning, freedom, and authenticity in their lives. It focuses on personal growth and living in alignment with one’s values.
  • Feminist Therapy Addresses how gender roles, power, and social inequality affect mental health. It empowers clients to challenge limiting beliefs and systems.
  • Ketamine-Assisted Therapy Combines low doses of ketamine with psychotherapy to treat depression, trauma, and anxiety. It can provide relief when other methods haven’t worked.
  • Narrative Therapy Encourages people to view problems as separate from themselves and reframe their life story. It helps build resilience and self-identity.
  • Person-Centered Therapy (Rogerian) Emphasizes empathy, unconditional positive regard, and authenticity. It provides a safe space for self-discovery and growth.
  • Psychoeducational Therapy Provides education and coping tools about mental health conditions. It empowers clients with knowledge and practical skills.
  • Relational Psychotherapy Emphasizes the healing power of the therapist-client relationship. It uses trust and safety as a foundation for change.
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) Focuses on solutions and future goals rather than past problems. It is practical, short-term, and goal-driven.

Therapy Sessions Shira Collings Practice Description
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor offering teletherapy in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Washington, and Nevada. I specialize in reproductive identity and reproductive mental health—supporting people through experiences like abortion, pregnancy loss, infertility, parenthood, and the decision to be childfree. My therapeutic approach is centered on making room for the complexity, grief, strength, and meaning that can emerge from exploring our reproductive stories. My approach is feminist, relational, and person-centered. That means I see therapy as a collaborative process—one where your lived experience, wisdom, and agency are honored. I believe healing happens in relationship, and I pay close attention to the dynamics between us as well as the broader systems that shape our lives. I'm interested in how past and present experiences connect, how identity forms and transforms, and how we carry stories in our bodies. I don’t come to our work with an agenda or path you must follow—I come with curiosity, care, and a commitment to creating a space that is affirming, nonjudgmental, and deeply respectful of who you are. While I specialize in reproductive mental health, I also have deep experience supporting clients navigating a wide range of concerns. These include trauma, grief and loss, queer identity, neurodivergence, anxiety, and major life transitions. I work with people who are searching for clarity, self-understanding, or a more grounded sense of belonging in themselves and the world. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming, neurodiversity affirming, and aligned with disability justice and Health At Every Size. I welcome all the parts of you—especially the ones that feel tender, uncertain, or out of place—and I hold them with compassion and care.
