Anxiety

Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC
Anxiety has become one of the more common issues clients are struggling to manage, but learning which techniques are most effective for each person can dramatically improve their quality of life. Uncovering the sources of a person's anxiety is equally important to the symptom management or coping skills because anxiety can be a "stand alone" problem or it may be related to more significant issues that can be identified and dealt with.

Anxiety is one of the most uncomfortable emotions to be living with. Anxiety can take various forms, such as fears about particular situations or concerns about the future; or it can also be pervasive or 'free floating', like a continuous undercurrent in our lives. The good news, though, is that anxiety can be successfully treated in psychotherapy and clients can find a lot of relief. Much of our anxiety is caused by our thoughts and the 'stories' we tell ourselves, which are then mirrored in our body and create 'butterflies', intense tension and stress. I teach my clients tools to 'work with' and relate to their anxious thoughts so that the thoughts lose their strength and dissipate. I also help clients to clear the anxiety and discomfort they are holding in their bodies. These tools can be done 'on the fly' as you go about your day and are very effective. Learning to work with your thoughts and body sensations provides tremendous relief and is quite empowering.

Anxiety and fears can show up as persistent worry, tension, restlessness, or avoidance that interferes with daily life. You may experience racing thoughts, physical symptoms like rapid heartbeat or muscle tension, or a sense of dread about the future—even when there’s no immediate danger. Anxiety can be exhausting and isolating, making it hard to feel fully present or confident. In therapy, we help identify triggers, develop practical coping strategies, and build skills to manage anxious thoughts and feelings—so you can feel calmer, more grounded, and more in control of your life.
