Suicidal Thoughts

Rory Valentine Diller

Registered Psychotherapist, M.A., LMFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #139783
Suicidal thoughts and self-harm (also known as self-injury, hurting yourself on purpose, cutting, burning etc.). often first manifest in adolescence or young adulthood and are typically used as a way to cope with emotional pain. Individuals who have experienced trauma, neglect or abuse are particularly susceptible to self-harming behaviors and suicidal thoughts. I work with clients to help them commit and plan for safety, understand and dis-identify from these symptoms, heal their root causes, and re-invest in themselves and their futures.

Claudia Owens Shields

Psychologist, M.A., Ph.D.
Not only do I have training and experience in suicide-risk reduction, but I entered the field of psychology after successfully overcoming my own severe depression and related suicidality. I know from personal experience how seemingly impossible life can feel. I also know from personal experience that it is possible to not only overcome but to become stronger and better than one ever imagined.

Suicidal Thoughts

Melanie Goetz

Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFT
If suicidal thoughts are something common that you've been living with for a long time, then weekly therapy may be appropriate for you. The limitation of weekly, telehealth sessions exists when your thoughts begin to create a plan and you notice your hopelessness rising, along with more and more intent to act on the plan. While suicidal ideation can be unpredictable, and I am able to support you in finding the level of care you need, if the time does come, I do not start a therapeutic relationship with someone who needs more care than I can currently give through Zoom sessions. I volunteered as a Hotline Crisis Counselor at Didi Hirsch's Suicide Hotline before graduate school. My skills and technique for facing crises continued to develop through school and client experience. When you're not in crisis, we'll be sure to emphasize techniques of building safety in your environment, in our relationship, as well as within your own body during and outside of our sessions. We'll emphasize where you feel some sense of hope and purpose and give space for any and all the existing ambiguity.
