Cindy Lee Collins
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCC
I specialize in working with adults who have experienced emotional abuse, psychological abuse, and relational trauma, including chronic invalidation, manipulation, control, gaslighting, and environments where their emotional reality was consistently dismissed or distorted. Many clients I work with do not initially identify their experiences as “abuse,” but describe feeling confused, anxious in relationships, overly self-critical, or unsure of their own perceptions.
Emotional abuse often leaves a lasting impact on self-trust, boundaries, and identity. Even after leaving the relationship or environment, the nervous system may remain in patterns of hypervigilance, shutdown, or self-doubt.
My approach is trauma-informed and experiential. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and the Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) to help process the internalized impact of emotional abuse at the level of the nervous system, not just cognitively. These modalities support the resolution of stuck emotional material while helping rebuild a stable internal sense of safety and self-trust.
I also incorporate attachment-focused work and nervous system regulation, particularly for individuals who struggle with boundaries, people-pleasing, or difficulty trusting their own emotions and perceptions. Therapy is paced carefully to ensure that work on painful relational experiences does not feel overwhelming or destabilizing.
Over time, clients often report greater clarity in relationships, improved boundary-setting, and a stronger, more grounded sense of self.
