Trauma based dissociative (parts) support has been our focus and specialization throughout (14+ years). Most brains dissociate to some degree, under deep strain and stress and even repeated strain, dissociation is a way that some brains adapt to the intensive or repeated stress/strain/torture. We draw from DBR (shock recovery work), CranioSacral brain support work, Parts (TIST, IFS, EFIT, IPNB, Bonnie Badenoch's work, ...and inner child work, somatic and expressive arts, neurodevelopmental support, as well as characterological structure work within an attachment theory, non pathologizing framework. We work with clients to identify parts, systems, adaptations, responses, alters ... and what activates them. We support with memory reconsolidation and integrative support. Via IFS, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, NVC and IPNB Integration Processes, we work through mapping the system and healing exiled parts. For integration we offer Eco-Relational support, Mindfulness, or whatever framework the client gravitates towards and feels safe with accessing. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Dissociative processes can often be hard to put into words and even harder to understand the experiences that lead to the symptoms developing. Sometimes in life, an experience so traumatic happens that my psyche splits and cuts off part of myself in order to protect myself from what happened. It was a defensive mechanism at the time of the trauma to protect me from my incapacity to process it, but now its also created a situation where part of me is cut off from the other part of me. If I stay this way, I remain stuck in a fragmented or wounded place psychologically. The reality is we all want to be whole and part of healing may involve a process of reintegrating all the parts of myself with each other. If you think you may be dissociating, call us. We would come alongside you to help you.

Marriage and Family Therapist, Ma, LMFT
When working with dissociation, I take a somatic and parts-oriented approach rooted in my training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and the TIST model (a trauma-informed parts framework). Dissociation is often the nervous system’s way of managing overwhelming or unresolved experiences. Rather than seeing it as something to get rid of, I help clients understand it as a meaningful and protective response. Together, we work to gently track dissociative patterns, build awareness of what's happening in the body and nervous system, and begin reconnecting with parts of the self that may have been cut off or pushed aside. Through psychoeducation, experiential work, and compassionate curiosity, we begin to repair internal disconnection and foster communication between parts. From this perspective, I see internal conflict not as a problem, but as a sign of growing integration and movement toward healing.

Unfortunately, many who suffer with Complex PTSD can also show signs of Dissociative Disorders. Dissociative disorders can severely disrupt daily functioning, making it difficult to maintain relationships or employment. It can cause significant confusion, as individuals may not remember past events, feel detached from their surroundings, or experience shifts in identity. I have experience working with all five major types of dissociative disorders: dissociative identity disorder (DID); dissociative amnesia (DA), including dissociative fugue (DF) as a subtype; depersonalization/derealization disorder (DPDRD); other specified dissociative disorders (OSDD); and unspecified dissociative disorders (UDD). Treatment focuses on connecting with the present, managing triggers, and processing trauma. Immediate steps include grounding techniques, developing safety, practicing self-care, and develop skills to identify and cope with personal triggers that worsen symptoms.
